Couple sues Maryland motel, others for bed bug infestation

WHEELING -- A Hancock County woman and her husband are suing Super 8 Worldwide, Super 8 Motel and an individual after she claims the bed she slept in was infested with bed bugs.

On Sept. 7, 2008, Desire Clendenning was on a business trip and was in Aberdeen, Md., and was staying in the Super 8 Motel, according to a complaint filed Jan. 7 in Ohio Circuit Court.

Clendenning claims the bed she slept in was infested with bed bugs and she suffered a severe reaction to the bites all over her body.

As a result of the defendants' negligence, Clendenning has suffered mental anguish, anxiety, depression and has lost compensation due to her inability to stay in a hotel when traveling for work.

Clendenning claims Super 8 Worldwide, Super 8 Motel and Akshay S. Sham had a duty of reasonable care to her and breached this duty by allowing a bed bug infestation into the facility.

Clendenning and her husband, Ed Clendenning, are seeking economic and non-economic damages; loss of wages and benefits; and reasonable and necessary medical and healthcare related expenses. They are being represented by Teresa C. Toriseva and Vincent S. Gurrera.
