Spilman attorney named DRI National Director

CHARLESTON -- An attorney from Spilman Thomas & Battle has been named a DRI National Director.

Neva G. Lusk said the national director position is a very exciting opportunity for her.

"I'm the first West Virginia lawyer to be elected to this position," Lusk said. "I think it reflects positively on our state when things like this happen."

DRI is an international organization of attorneys defending the interests of business and individuals in civil litigation and has more than 22,000 members. The national directors are elected to a three-year term.

"Our main goal is to improve the legal system," Lusk said. "We want litigants to be treated fairly."

Lusk said she will also be serving on the Board of Directors, deal with appointments to standing committees focused on policy making and serving as a Board of Directors' liaison to substantive law committees.

John R. Kouris, Execitive Director of DRI said the organization has selected the very best in his profession for the position.

"These lawyers have already provided DRI with exemplary leadership and are ready now to spearhead our ongoing and expanding efforts to effectively represent the best interests of the business community," Kouris said.

Lusk said DRI has two important qualities that help clients and staff members.

"The sheer size of DRI and the educational opportunities brings more information to the table and in turn, is of utmost benefit to our clients and staff," Lusk said. "I'm proud to be the first West Virginia elected to the position and I look forward to making an impact."

Lusk is a Member in the firm's Charleston office. She primarily practices general litigation with an emphasis on product liability, toxic torts and class actions.

Lusk previously was the State Representative for West Virginia and member of the Public Policy Committee for DRI. She is the past President of The Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia and is a member of the Lawyers for Civil Justice.

Lusk also serves on the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Bar Foundation, is a member of the American Bar Association, the Board of Directors, the International Association of Defense Counsel, and is Vice President of Allocations for the Find for the Arts.

Lusk has been named by The Best Lawyers in America for commercial litigation. She is recognized as a leading litigation attorney by Chambers USA, America's Leading Business Lawyers. She has been recognized by West Virginia Super Lawyers.

Lusk received her B.A. from Marshall University and her J.D. from West Virginia University.
