Former employee sues attorney for failure to pay wages

HUNTINGTON -- A Cabell County woman is suing an attorney because she claims he owes her more than $4,000 in wages.

Kelli E. Styer was employed by Brian P. Conaty from Jan. 20, 2009, until Aug. 30, 2009, according to a complaint filed March 25 in Cabell Circuit Court.

Styer claims she and Conaty agreed she would be paid $30 per hour for every hour she billed against his clients' accounts as compensation.

Upon leaving her employment with Conaty, Styer was owed $4,195, according to the suit.

Styer claims her last check came back as insufficient funds, causing her to incur an overdraft fee of $35.

Styer claims prior to leaving her job, she provided Conaty with statements as evidence of his debt to her and requested payment. Conaty has failed and refused to pay back wages, despite demands by the plaintiff.

Styer is seeking damages in the amount of $16,900. She is being represented by John A. Proctor.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge David M. Pancake.
