Wayne woman sues doctor for husband's death

HUNTINGTON -- A Wayne woman is suing Dr. James H. Morgan II after she claims he was negligent and caused the death of her husband.

On May 15, 2008, Denvil A. Johnson was admitted to St. Mary's Medical Center for a laparoscopic redo hiatal hernia repair and Nissen fundoplication and was released the same day, according to a complaint filed March 30 in Cabell Circuit Court.

Johnson was readmitted Nov. 9, 2008, and died that same day, according to the suit.

Letha F. Johnson, Mr. Johnson's wife, claims Morgan was negligence and failed to treat her husband is according with the accepted standard of care.

Mrs. Johnson claims her husband suffered from multisystem organ failure with sepsis following a perforation of his stomach wall during a surgical procedure to repair a recurrent hiatal hernia, which resulted in his death.

Mrs. Johnson is seeking compensatory damages. She is being represented by Stephen P. Meyer.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge F. Jane Hustead.
