Maryland woman sues WVU Board of Governors, WVU Hospital for medical malpractice

MORGANTOWN--A Lonaconing, Md., woman is suing the West Virginia University Board of Governors and West Virginia University Hospital for medical malpractice after she claims she sustained severe and permanent injuries.

On Feb. 19, 2008, Cheryl K. Broadwater underwent a total abdominal hysterectomy that was performed by the defendants, according to a complaint filed April 16 in Monongalia Circuit Court.

Broadwater claims she placed multiple calls the the defendants because the pain medication she was prescribed made her feel sick and unable to eat, and because she was having flu-like aches and pains, a fever and other problems, but that her complaints were never documented or addressed.

Broadwater claims on Feb. 26 she woke up lying in blood that had an odor and was admitted to the emergency room for severe post-operative infection and sepsis.

The defendants were negligent in their care and treatment of Broadwater, failed to safeguard her care by failing to report or document her symptoms and failed to notify the physician in a timely manner, according to the suit.

Broadwater is seeking compensatory damages. She is being represented by Kelly R. Reed.
