Former employee sues CAMC for age discrimination

CHARLESTON -- A former employee is suing Charleston Area Medical Center after she claims she was discharged because of her age.

Rhoda Mullins was employed by the defendant for approximately 35 years and during her employment, she consistently performed her duties in a satisfactory manner and met the reasonable expectations of the defendant, according to a complaint filed April 19 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

On Oct. 3, 2008, Mullins claims the defendant "willfully, maliciously and unlawfully terminated" her employment based on her age.

The defendant was in violation of the West Virginia Human Rights Act, according to the suit.

Mullins claims the defendant's actions caused her to suffer lost wages and benefits.

Mullins is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by Mark A. Atkinson.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Charles King.
