Florida couple names 74 defendants in asbestos suit

CHARLESTON -- A Freeport, Fla., couple is suing 74 companies in an asbestos-related suit.

George A. Vaughan was employed by Armco Steel from 1958 until 1960 and Kaiser Aluminum/Century Aluminum from 1963 until 1993, according to a complaint filed May 14 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Vaughan, who was diagnosed with lung cancer on Feb. 26, claims he smoked one pack of cigarettes per day from 1961 until 1984, but has not since.

Vaughan and his wife, Connie S. Vaughan, claim the defendants are responsible for his lung cancer.

The defendants are being sued for negligence, contaminated buildings, breach of expressed/implied warranty, strict liability, intentional tort, conspiracy, misrepresentations and post-sale duty to warn, according to the suit.

The Vaughans are seeking a jury trial to resolve all issues involved in their asbestos-related case. They are being represented by Thomas P. Maroney and Victoria Antion.

The case has been assigned to a visiting judge.
