WAYNE -- A woman is suing GEICO Insurance Company and an individual for injuries she sustained when she was struck by a vehicle.
On May 27, 2008, Deanna Thomas was crossing U.S. Route 60 when Sherry Lynn Corbett negligently and recklessly drove a motor vehicle into her, according to a complaint filed May 3 in Wayne Circuit Court.
Thomas claims at the time of the accident, Corbett was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
As a result of the accident, Thomas suffered serious injuries, suffered great pain of body and mind and incurred expenses for medical attention, according to the suit.
Thomas claims she had purchased an insurance policy with GEICO for uninsured motorist coverage that was in effect at the time of the accident.
Thomas made a claim upon her uninsured motorist coverage under her policy, which demanded benefits, which GEICO denied, according to the suit.
Even though the demand has been made for payment, GEICO has failed in accordance with the terms of the policy and has breached its contract, according to the suit.
Thomas is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by William L. Mundy.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Darrell Pratt.
