Woman names 60 defendants in asbestos case for husband's death

CHARLESTON -- A South Charleston woman named 60 defendants in an asbestos-related law suit regarding her husband's death.

Doris Hunt is the executrix of the Estate of George F. Hunt, who died Feb. 19.

Mr. Hunt was employed by Union Carbide from 1947 until 1987 as a laborer, according to a complaint filed May 14 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

On Sept. 29, 2009, Mr. Hunt was diagnosed with mesothelioma, according to the suit.

Mrs. Hunt claims her late husband smoked one-half or less of a pack of cigarettes per day from 1946 until 1953, but then quit.

The defendants are being sued for negligence, contaminated buildings, breach of expressed/implied warranty, strict liability, intentional tort, conspiracy, misrepresentation and post-sale duty to warn, according to the suit.

Mrs. Hunt is seeking a jury trial to resolve all issues involved in the case. She is being represented by Victoria Antion and James A. McKowen.

The case has been assigned to a visiting judge.
