CHARLESTON -- A woman is suing the Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority after she claims she and her granddaughter were injured while exiting a bus.
On June 25, 2008, Stephanie Mitchell and her 3-year-old granddaughter boarded a KVRTA bus that was heading toward Rand, according to a complaint filed June 23 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Mitchell claims they began to exit the bus on the corner of Washington Street and Thompson Street when the bus driver moved the bus and kept going before they had fully exited it.
The other passengers on the bus were yelling and shouting at the driver to stop, but the driver would not listen, according to the suit.
Mitchell claims she and her granddaughter were traumatized and injured. She claims the defendant was negligent and breached its duty by causing them to sustain injuries.
Mitchell is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by Geoffrey I. Ekenasi.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Carrie Webster.
