Insurer sues woman for embezzling more than $100,000

MARTINSBURG -- An employee of Opequon Motors is being sued by Sentry Select Insurance Company for embezzling more than $100,000 from her employer.

Melinda S. Lowe embezzled $116,010.90 of her employer's funds into her own bank account, according to a complaint filed June 3 in Berkeley Circuit Court.

As a result of the embezzlement, charges were filed and Lowe was convicted on one felony offense of embezzlement, according to the suit.

Sentry claims as part of the order of conviction and sentence, restitution was ordered to Lowe's insured in the amount of $17,010.90, which represented the difference between the amount actually embezzled and the amount the Court found was paid to the company's insured by the Court.

Lowe is indebted to Sentry in the amount of $100,000, according to the suit.

Sentry is seeking judgment in the amount of $100,000 with pre- and post-judgment interest. The company is being represented by Richard J. McGervey.
