CHARLESTON -- A former Lakin Correctional Center inmate is suing the West Virginia Division of Corrections and a correctional officer after she claims she was sexually harassed, abused and assaulted during her incarceration.
John Doe is also named as a defendant in the suit.
During Brandy Eplion's incarceration, C.O. Crawford sexually harassed, abused and assaulted her, according to a complaint filed Aug. 17 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Eplion claims Doe conspired with; aided and abetted; acted as a lookout; served as an accessory before and after the fact; and acted as a principal with regard to Crawford's activities.
The WVDOC owed a duty to Eplion to provide a reasonably safe facility and failed to do so.
Eplion is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by Kerry A. Nessel.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Jennifer Bailey.
