Fayette Co. couple sues for defective medical products

CHARLESTON -- A Fayette County couple is suing Zimmer Holdings for defective medical products that were used in a knee arthroplasty.

Zimmer Orthopedic Surgical Products and Heraeus Kulzer GmBH & CO. KG were also named as defendants in the suit.

On Sept. 24, 2008, Katherine Ramsey had a left total knee arthroplasty performed at Charleston Area Medical Center, according to a complaint filed Sept. 21 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

The defendants were negligent in the design, manufacture, assembly, testing, inspection, provision with warnings and instructions, marking and distribution of the products, according to the suit.

Ramsey and her husband, Grant Ramsey, claim the products were defective. They are seeking compensatory and punitive damages. They are being represented by Christopher T. Pritt

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Tod J. Kaufman.
