Former inmate sues state jail authority, four individuals

CHARLESTON -- A woman is suing the West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority, three correctional officers of the jail and an unnamed person for sexual harassment, abuse and assault.

While she was incarcerated at the Southern Regional Jail, Tamara Johnson claims she was sexually harassed, abused and assaulted by David Stoner, C.O. Price and C.O. Wilson, according to a complaint filed Oct. 15 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Johnson claims she suffered anxiety; humiliation; annoyance and inconvenience; invasion of privacy; emotional distress; pain and suffering; mental anguish; loss of her ability to enjoy life; and medical and pharmaceutical expenses because of the abuse.

According to the complaint, the conduct of the unnamed person and the three correctional officers was reprehensible; willful and wanton; malicious; and in blatant and intentional disregard for Johnson's rights.

Johnson is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by Matthew J. Woelfel.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Tod J. Kaufman.
