Man says automatic door at CAMC caused injuries

CHARLESTON -- A Charleston man is suing Charleston Area Medical Center after he claims he was injured by an automatic door at the hospital.

On June 30, William Hilliard was entering the hospital's main entrance and was proceeding through an automatic door when it closed abruptly and hit his left knee and shoulder, according to a complaint filed Oct. 21 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Hilliard claims the defendant was negligent in "enticing its patrons to enter a defective door so as to cause their customers to be injured by the door while attempting to access the hospital."

The defendant did nut use due or reasonable care under the circumstances by failing to maintain, inspect and service the doors, according to the suit.

Hilliard is seeking compensatory damages. He is being represented by Michelle L. Johnson.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Tod J. Kaufman.
