82 companies named as defendants in asbestos suit

CHARLESTON -- Two individuals have named 82 companies as defendants in an asbestos suit.

Willie Oliver Reed was diagnosed with asbestosis and died Nov. 12, 2009, according to a complaint filed Nov. 10 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Rick Reed and Ruth Reed, co-executors of the Estate of Willie Oliver Reed, claim the 82 defendants are responsible for his lung disease and death.

The defendants are being sued upon the theories of negligence, contaminated buildings, breach of expressed/implied warranty, strict liability, intentional tort, conspiracy, misrepresentations and post sale duty to warn, according to the suit.

Rick Reed and Ruth Reed are seeking a jury trial to resolve all issues involved. They are being represented by Bronwyn I. Rinehart.

The case has been assigned to a visiting judge.
