Putnam woman sues Thomas Hospital for breach

CHARLESTON -- A Putnam County woman is suing Herbert J. Thomas Memorial Hospital Association after she claims they improperly administered medications and fluids into her IV while she was at the hospital.

Tina Martin was a patient at the hospital from March 31, 2009, until April 10, 2009, according to a complaint filed Dec. 2 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Martin claims the nursing staff at the hospital breached the standard duty of care by improperly administering the medications and fluids into her IV.

The defendant breached the standard of care by failing to train and supervise its nursing staff in the proper administration of intravenous fluids and medications, treatment and maintenance of IV sites and recognition of infiltrated IVs, according to the suit.

Martin claims she sustained numerous injuries including tissue death, necrosis, loss of motion, neurological damage and other damages to her dominant hand.

Martin is seeking compensatory damages. She is being represented by Michelle Johnson.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Charles King.
