Charleston Hospital sues physicians for breach of contract

CHARLESTON -- Charleston Hospital is suing three of its physicians after it claims they have breached their contracts.

Drs. Quentin K. Tanko, Cynthia Wesley and Matthew J. Shaffer all entered into contracts with the hospital and were advanced and loaned money, according to three complaints filed Dec. 17 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Tanko entered into the contract on March 17, 2008, and was advanced and loaned $214,878. Wesley entered into the contract on Aug. 17, 2008, and was advanced and loaned $500,830. Shaffer entered into the contract on Jan. 21, 2008, and was advanced and loaned $232,961. The hospital claims the physicians continue to breach the agreement.

Charleston Hospital is seeking judgment from each of the three doctors; from Tanko in the amount of $174,588, plus accrued interest in the amount of $11,415; from Wesley in the amount of $417,358, plus accrued interest in the amount of $23,059; from Shaffer in the amount of $160,161, plus accrued interest in the amount of $16,501. The hospital is being represented by Ellen S. Cappellanti and Amber L. Hoback.

The cases have been assigned to Circuit Judge James C. Stucky.
