CHARLESTON -- A woman is suing Harrell Memorial Nursing Home after she claims it is responsible for her mother's death.
Judy Hash, the administrator of the nursing home; John Does 1 through 10; and Unidentified Entities 1 through 10 were also named as defendants in the suit.
Ethel Pearl Malloy was a resident at the defendants' nursing home from Oct. 31, 2008, until Dec. 16, 2008, according to a complaint filed Dec. 20 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Seaondra Wade claims Malloy was no longer able to handle her affairs because she had dementia, which was why she was placed in the defendants' care.
The defendants failed to discharge their obligations of care to Mallow, which resulted in accelerated deterioration of her health and physical condition beyond that caused by the normal aging process, including pressure sores, malnutrition, dehydration, infections and her eventual death on Nov. 14, 2009, according to the suit.
Wade claims the defendants were negligent in their care of Malloy.
Wade is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by James B. McHugh and Michael J. Fuller Jr.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Carrie Webster.
