CHARLESTON -- A Kanawha County woman is suing the Mardi Gras Casino & Resort after she claims her supervisor subjected her to unwanted sexual remarks and demeaning comments.
The supervisor, William Rothman, was also named as a defendant in the suit.
Nedra Vance was subjected to a hostile work environment by the defendants, according to a complaint filed Dec. 20 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Vance claims Rothman had harassed other female employees before her.
The defendants created a hostile and intimidated work environment, which violated the West Virginia Human Rights Act, according to the suit.
Vance claims because Rothman was acting within the scope of his employment when he harassed her, the Mardi Gras Casino & Resort is strictly liable for Rothman's harassment.
Vance is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by Paul M. Stroebel.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge James C. Stucky.
