Wood Co. couple names 80 defendants in asbestos suit

CHARLESTON -– A Parkersburg man and his wife are suing 80 companies after they claim they are responsible for his lung cancer.

On Sept. 16, William Darrell Adkins was diagnosed with lung cancer, according to a complaint filed Jan. 12 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Adkins claims he smoked from 1937 until 1968, but has not smoked since. He claims he was employed by Columbia Gas from 1948 until 1990.

The defendants are being sued upon theories of negligence, contaminated buildings, breach of expressed/implied warranty, strict liability, intentional tort, conspiracy, misrepresentation and post-sale duty to warn, according to the suit.

Adkins and his wife, Anna Adkins, are seeking a jury trial to resolve all issues involved. They are being represented by Victoria Antion and Bronwyn I. Rinehart.

The case has been assigned to a visiting judge.
