Pa. man sues 14 companies after mesothelioma diagnosis

CHARLESTON -- A Canonsburg, Pa., man is suing 14 companies after he claims they are responsible for his mesothelioma diagnosis.

William B. DePaoli Jr. was exposed to asbestos during his employment at various job sites around West Virginia, according to a complaint filed March 22 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

DePaoli claims the defendants caused him to develop malignant mesothelioma.

The defendants failed to advise DePaoli of the dangerous characteristics of their asbestos and asbestos-related products; failed or omitted to provide him with the knowledge as to what would be reasonably safe and sufficient apparel and proper protective equipment and appliance; failed to place warnings on containers; and did not recommend methods to improve the work environment, according to the suit.

DePaoli is seeking compensatory and punitive damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. He is being represented by Aaron J. DeLuca and Carla J. Guttilla.

The case has been assigned to a visiting judge.

The 14 companies named as defendants in the suit are Beazer East, Inc.; Crane Co.; Crown Cork And Seal Company, Inc.; F.B. Wright Company; George V. Hamilton, Inc.; Goulds Pumps, Inc.; Grinnell Corporation; Imo Industries, Inc.; Ingersoll-Rand Company; J.H. France Refractories Company; Pittsburgh Gage & Supply; Safety First Industries, Inc.; United States Steel Corporation; and Vimasco Corporation.
