Dona Frye, as natural parent and next friend to infant Savannah Adkins vs. Spring Valley High School; James Asbury, individually and as teacher at Spring Valley High School; Stephen J. Morris, individually and as principal of Spring Valley High School; Wayne County Board of Education; and Gary L. Adkins, individually and as superintendent of Wayne County Board of Education

* On Sept. 14, 2009, Adkins was a student in a class taught by Asbury. Frye claims Adkins requested permission to go to the restroom, but was denied. Adkins got up approximately two minutes later and states she had to go to the restroom because she was ill, according to the suit. Frye claims her daughter got out into the hallway and passed out, which caused her to fall and hit her face. Another teacher and Morris later found Adkins in the hallway and attempted to contact Frye, according to the suit. Frye claims no one at the high school called for an ambulance, and when she arrived at the school she took Adkins to Cabell Huntington Hospital, where she had to undergo surgery the next day. Frye is seeking judgment against the defendants with pre- and post-judgment interest.

Judith Curry vs. Pilgrim's Pride Corporation

* On Jan. 22, 2009, Curry purchased a package of seasoned chicken wings at a Wal-mart store in Wayne County. She claims after consuming a portion of the Pilgrim's Pride chicken product she became violently ill and was transported to the hospital, where she remained for three days. She claims the defendant's product was unfit for human consumption. She is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest.
