Marshall student says other student struck her with bottle

HUNTINGTON -- A Marshall University student is suing another student after she claims she was struck in the head with a bottle.

On April 7, 2010, Christine Canterberry was socializing with friends at Pecker's, a bar in Huntington, when Cynthia Romero, a Marshall student from Leesburg, Va., maliciously and intentionally struck her in the head with a bottle, according to a complaint filed April 6 in Cabell Circuit Court.

Canterberry claims she lost consciousness and suffered injuries, including lacerations on her face and knee, when Romero struck her.

Romero's actions also caused Canterberry to black out twice during the week following the incident, indicating a neurological injury, according to the suit.

Canterberry is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by Michael W. Carey and David R. Pogue.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge David M. Pancake.
