Woman sues Mountain State University for losing accreditation

HUNTINGTON -- A woman is suing Mountain State University after she claims it failed to inform her it lost its accreditation.

In 2009, Billie Call was solicited by the defendant for the purpose of persuading her to enroll, pay for and participate in a program that would allow her to advance from a licensed practical nurse to having a bachelor of science in nursing degree, according to a complaint filed April 14 in Cabell Circuit Court.

Call claims in 2010, the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission voted to deny continuing accreditation to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program at Mountain State University.

The defendant failed to inform Call that the program lost its accreditation and encouraged her to continue paying for and participating in the program, according to the suit.

Call claims the defendant failed to fulfill its contractual obligations and breached its duty of good faith.

Call is seeking compensatory and punitive damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. She is being represented by Thomas H. Peyton.

The case has been assigned to Judge Paul T. Farrell.
