Lincoln Co. woman accuses CAMC, physician of negligence

CHARLESTON -- A Lincoln County woman is suing Charleston Area Medical Center and a physician she claims cut her bladder during surgery.

On March 25, 2009, Tammy D. McCormick underwent a laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy, right peritubal cystectomy, bi-lateral salpingo-oophorectomy and cystotomy with cystotomy repair, which was performed by Dr. Dara Porfeli Aliff, according to a complaint filed May 20 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

McCormick claims when she woke up from the surgery, Aliff informed her that she had cut her bladder during the surgery, but that the laceration had been repaired during the surgery.

After the surgery, McCormick continued to follow up with Aliff and advised her that she was experiencing urinary inconsistence, which she still continues to experience, according to the suit.

McCormick claims the defendants negligently cared for her during the surgery and failed to perform the surgery.

McCormick is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgement interest. She is being represented by Charles M. Johnstone and Sarah A. Stewart.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Paul Zakaib Jr.
