Woman sues Sun Healthcare Group for mother's overmedication

CHARLESTON -- A woman is suing Sun Healthcare Group after she claims they overmedicated her mother while she was a resident.

Sabra Health Care REIT, Inc.; SHG Services, Inc.; Sunbridge Healthcare Corporation; Sunbridge Care Enterprises, Inc.; Sunbridge Mountain Care Management, Inc.; Atlantic Financial Group; Roger Davis; John Does 1 through 10; and Unidentified Entities 1 through 10 (as to New Martinsville Healthcare Center) were also named as defendants in the suit.

In August 2009, Chloe Anderson was admitted to the defendants' care, where she remained as a resident until October 2010, according to a complaint filed May 27 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Cshawn Smith claims Anderson sustained pressure sores, falls, fractures, infections and overmedication while she was a resident of the defendants.

The defendants were negligent in caring for Anderson, according to the suit.

Smith claims the defendants caused Anderson to injuries and failed to adequately care for her.

Smith is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. He is being represented by James B. McHugh, Mciahel J. Fuller Jr. and Amy J. Quezon.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Charles E. King.
