Couple sues Huntington surgeon for negligence

HUNTINGTON -- A woman and her husband are suing a Huntington surgeon for negligence post-surgery.

On June 5, 2009, Melanie Gleason was admitted to Cabell Huntington Hospital for a bilateral brachioplasty and abdominoplasty to be performed by Dr. Adel Faltaous, according to a complaint filed June 3 in Cabell Circuit Court.

Melanie Gleason and Robert Bruce Gleason claim following the surgery, Faltaous failed to round on Melanie Gleason; failed to place her in surgical intensive care for close observation after extensive bleeding and 10 hours of surgery; and failed to order hospital staff to prepare her for surgery and re-exploration.

Due to the failures of the defendant, Melanie Gleason sustained severe injuries, according to the suit.

The Gleasons claim the defendant deviated from the acceptable standard of care.

Faltaous caused Melanie Gleason great pain, suffering, mental anguish and permanent injury, according to the suit.

The Gleasons are seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. They are representing themselves.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge David M. Pancake.
