HUNTINGTON -- A woman is suing Steel of West Virginia after she claims it caused her husband's lung cancer and death.
SWVA Inc. and Timothy R. Duke, president and CEO of SWVA, Inc. were also named as defendants in the suit.
Robert E. Leffingwell was employed by the defendants as a production worker until March 2, 2008, according to a complaint filed June 24 in Cabell Circuit Court.
Tina Marie Leffingwell claims Robert Leffingwell was exposed to breathable fumes from metals, grinding dust, vapors and other products, which caused him to develop lung cancer.
The presence of uncontrolled exposure to metal fumes, dust and mists in the facility created an unsafe working condition, according to the suit.
Tina Marie Leffingwell claims the defendants failed to provide adequate ventilation and personal protective equipment for Robert Leffingwell.
Tina Marie Leffingwell is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by John H. Skaggs and Omar D. Ahmad.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge F. Jane Hustead.
