CHARLESTON – Two former employees are suing Capital Area Services Company after they claim they were fired based on their gender.
Scott Bowlin and Kelley Mitchell, employees of Capital Area Services Company, were also named as defendants in the suits.
On Aug. 8, 2009, Jessica Steele was fired from her employment with the defendants and on Sept. 19, 2009, Sara Beth McClanahan was fired from her employment with the defendants, according to two cases filed Aug. 4 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
McClanahan and Steele claim during their employments, they were repeatedly passed over for jobs that were given to men.
The defendants' actions constituted sexual harassment and/or created a hostile work environment for McClanahan and Steele, according to the suits.
The women claim Bowlin also repeatedly made inappropriate comments about them and other female employees.
McClanahan and Steel are seeking compensatory and punitive damages with pre-judgment interest. They are being represented by Mark A. Atkinson.
The cases have been assigned to Circuit Judge Carrie Webster and Circuit Judge Louis H. Bloom.
