HUNTINGTON -- A Point Pleasant woman is suing Cabell Huntington Hospital and the Marshall University Board of Governors for her brother's death, for which she claims they are responsible.
On Sept. 3, 2010, Ralph David Camp II presented to the emergency department of Cabell Huntington Hospital following a rollover ATV accident that occurred in Mason County and underwent testing in the emergency department that revealed a Grade IV liver laceration, according to a complaint filed Sept. 14 in Cabell Circuit Court.
Camp's sister, Jodi Camp, claims the following day, her brother was discharged from the emergency department to the hospital's Intensive Care Unit.
The ICU admission orders included an order for hourly monitoring of vital signs and urine output, but his medical record does not include documentation of vital signs and urine output for each hour during his ICU admission, according to the suit.
Jodi Camp claims Dr. Gerald McKinney documented in a progress note that serial abdominal examinations of her brother's abdomen would be performed, but the serial abdominal examinations were not performed after his admission to ICU.
Throughout Sept. 4, 2010, Ralph David Camp's heart rate was elevated and his urine output decreased, according to the suit.
On Sept. 5, 2010, Jodi Camp claims it was discovered Ralph David Camp had severe sepsis as a result of the intestinal perforations.
On Sept. 6, 2010, Ralph David Camp was pronounced dead as a result of the sepsis from the intestinal perforations, according to the suit.
Jodi Camp claims the defendants failed to properly and timely recognize and treat Ralph David Camp. She claims the defendants also failed to render timely and appropriate care and treatment.
The defendants caused Jodi Camp to suffer a loss of comfort, companionship, society, services, support and kindly offices of her brother, according to the suit.
Jodi Camp is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. She is being represented by William L. Mundy.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge David M. Pancake.
