Former employee sues Kanawha Hospice for failure to pay wages

CHARLESTON -- A former employee is suing Kanawha Hospice Care, Inc., for failing to pay her final wages within 72 hours of discharge.

Kathi L. Johnson was employed by the defendant from Nov. 23, 2009, until July 26, according to a complaint filed Nov. 3 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Johnson claims after her employment was terminated, the defendant failed to pay her final wages within 72 hours, which violated the West Virginia Wage Payment and Collection Act.

The defendant's failure to pay Johnson's final wages in a timely manner entitle her to treble damages, according to the suit.

Johnson is seeking compensatory and liquidated damages. She is being represented by J. Michael Ranson, Cynthia M. Ranson, George B. Morrone III and G. Patrick Jacobs.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Louis H. Bloom.
