Man says washer at St. Mary's Medical Center leaked, caused injuries

HUNTINGTON -- A Cabell County man is suing St. Mary's Medical Center for injuries he sustained while working.

On Oct. 26, 2010, Robert Leffingwell, who was employed by the hospital, was placing surgical and medical equipment into a washer when he was injured, according to a complaint filed Nov. 14 in Cabell Circuit Court.

Leffingwell claims the washer had not been working properly for years and leaked water onto the floor, which caused him to slip and fall.

The hospital exposed Leffingwell to machinery that was not properly maintained, properly serviced, properly working and for which no hazard or safety training had ever been conducted, according to the suit.

Leffingwell is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. He is being represented by Amy C. Crossan and Christopher Keaton.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge F. Jane Hustead.
