Widower sues Ultimate Health Services for wife's death

HUNTINGTON - A widower is suing Ultimate Health Services for his wife's death.

Ultimate Health Services Inc. is doing business as Huntington Internal Medicine Group.

Drs. Ronald Haberman, George Joseph and Gregory Chaney were also named as defendants in the suit.

Jo Ann Adkins was a patient of Haberman's and on Aug. 30, 2011, blood was drawn from her at HIMG and her blood results were abnormal, according to a complaint filed Aug. 7 in Cabell Circuit Court.

Willie Ray Adkins, Jo Ann Adkins' husband, claims on Sept. 7, 2011, Joseph became involved in the medical treatment of Jo Ann Adkins and was aware that she was taking 150 mg of Flecainide twice daily.

In June 2012, Jo Ann Adkins suffered ventricular tachycardia and cardiac arrest due to Flecainide toxicity and died on June 14, 2012, according to the suit.

Willie Adkins claims as a result of the defendants' negligence, carelessness and marked deviation of the standard of care, Jo Ann Adkins suffered needless and great pain of body and mind, incurred medical expenses and died.

As a direct and proximate result of the negligence, carelessness and marked deviation from the standard of care committed by the defendants, Willie Adkins suffered a loss of comfort, companionship, society, services, support and kindly offices of Jon Ann Adkins, according to the suit.

Willie Adkins is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. He is being represented by Debra A. Nelson of the Nelson Law Firm PLLC.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge F. Jane Hustead.
