Clay Co. couple sues physician for malpractice, negligence

CHARLESTON -- A Clay County couple is suing a physician they claim caused injuries.

Pamela Summers was a patient of Dr. Subhash Bhanot, according to a complaint filed Dec. 27 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Summers claims during her time as a patient, Bhanot was negligent in his care and treatment by deciding to discharge her from the hospital despite her signs and symptoms of a small bowel obstruction.

As a result of the defendant's negligence, Summers sustained bodily injuries; suffered physical pain and mental anguish; sustained disfigurement and deformities; and incurred expenses for doctors, institutional care, hospital care, nursing care, equipment and related items of service, according to the suit.

Summers and her husband, Timmy Summers, are seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. They are being represented by William S. Druckman and Madonna C. Estep.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Tod J. Kaufman.
