CHARLESTON -- A former employee is suing the Hannon Company after he claims he was discriminated against because of his disability.
Jack Walter Bond Jr. was employed by the defendant for more than 30 years, according to a complaint filed Jan. 9 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Bond claims on Dec. 1, 2010, the defendant willfully, maliciously and unlawfully terminated his employment.
The defendant violated the West Virginia Wage Payment and Collection Act by terminated Bond's employment based on his disability and because he attempted to receive workers' compensation benefits because of a work-related injury, according to the suit.
Bond claims the defendant's actions caused him embarrassment and humiliation.
The defendant's actions were also willful, wanton and/or undertaken with reckless disregard and/or reckless indifference to the rights of Bond, according to the suit.
Bond is seeking compensatory and punitive damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. He is being represented by Mark A. Atkinson and Robert B. Warner.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Paul Zakaib Jr.
