Couple sues CAMC for skin breakdown

CHARLESTON -- A Putnam County couple is suing Charleston Area Medical Center for a skin breakdown that occurred while in the hospital.

On July 14, 2010, Stanley F. Garrison was admitted to CAMC-Memorial Division with complaints of general weakness, according to a complaint filed Jan. 10 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Garrison claims while he was a patient,he suffered from a skin breakdown and pressure ulcers resulting in a colostomy.

The hospital was negligent in allowing Garrison to suffer from the skin breakdown and pressure ulcers, according to the suit.

Garrison claims the defendant failed to timely initiate upon admission an initial plan of care related to skin care measures that resulted in the pressure ulcers.

The defendant's negligence caused Garrison to incur medical expenses, according to the suit.

Garrison and his wife, Penelope Garrison, are seeking compensatory and punitive damages. They are being represented by Andrew L. Paternostro, Sprague W. Hazard and Jeff D. Stewart.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Jennifer Bailey.
