HUNTINGTON -- A woman is suing Cabell Huntington Hospital after she claims they are responsible for her infant's injuries.
University Physicians & Surgeons, Inc. and the Marshall University Board of Governors were also named as defendants in the suit.
On Jan. 9, 2006, Christina Crouse gave birth to Hunter Levi Crouse at Cabell Huntington Hospital prematurely, according to a complaint filed Jan. 20 in Cabell Circuit Court.
Christina Crouse claims that because her son was born at 29 weeks and four days with a low birth weight of 1155 grams, he was at a high risk for developing hyperglycemia.
On Jan. 12, 2006, the infant developed hyperglycemia and went unmonitored and untreated for many days, resulting in ketoacidosis and profound brain damage.
Christina Crouse claims the defendants deviated from the applicable standard of care by failing to properly monitor, treat and diagnose the infant's hyperglycemia.
The defendants negligently failed to properly monitor and treat Hunter Levi Crouse's hyperglycemia and deprived him of a chance of recovery and was a substantial contributing factor in his brain damage and injuries, according to the suit.
Christina Crouse is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by C. Benjamin Salango and Donald "JR" Carter.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Paul T. Farrell.
