CHARLESTON -- Citing his dedicated experience in labor and building associations and his involvement in community service, West Virginia Attorney General Darrell McGraw has selected Fayetteville's William "Bill" Lanham to serve on the Citizens Advisory Committee.
Lanham has held the position of Town Superintendent for the Town of Fayetteville the past seven years. Before moving to Fayetteville, he helped establish the recycling program for the City of Dunbar, winning the "WV Make it Shine" community award three separate times. With an extensive resume, he was elected in 1990 and served twelve years on the Kanawha County Democratic Executive Committee.
He also served on the Advisory Board of Ben Franklin Vocational School's Heavy Equipment Operator's Training Program, and as past President of the West Virginia Chapter of the American Public Works Association. Mr. Lanham is currently a member of the Fayetteville Rotary Club, board member of the Fayetteville Baseball Little League and Midget Football League, and member of the West Virginia Municipal League and West Virginia City Managers Association.
Created by McGraw in 2007, the Citizens Advisory Committee reaches out to communities throughout the state to provide personalized access to consumer protection resources for all West Virginians. It offers consumers with questions and complaints the opportunity for direct contact with a representative of the Attorney General's Office.
"Opening channels of communication through our Consumer Advocates is one of the most effective tools that my office can use in educating consumers," McGraw said. "It enables our citizens to make smarter choices and reduces unnecessary litigation. Members of the Citizens Advisory Committee create a direct link from my office to their communities."
A graduate of Capitol Page School in Washington, D.C., Lanham served from 1981-1983 as a United States Senate Page for the late Senator Robert C. Byrd. He holds a Regents Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University.
