BRIDGEPORT -– Steptoe & Johnson has donated more than 100 used mobile phones to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Central West Virginia and Hope, Inc., both United Way organizations.

Both organizations collect used phones as part of their fundraising efforts. They send the phones to a company that recycles them in exchange for money which is then used to support the organizations. The additional resources will help Big Brothers Big Sisters in its mission to enrich the lives of at-risk youth. For Hope, Inc. -- a support service for victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence -- the phones will also serve as a lifeline. The organization will give some of its phones to victims that may need to call for aid in an emergency.

"The United Way of Harrison County is grateful for the donation of cell phones to Hope, Inc. and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Donated cell phones can enable victims of domestic violence to call 911. Additionally, these donations generate income through the cell phone recycling program. This is another way Steptoe & Johnson exhibits corporate social responsibility," said Marie Battles, Executive Director of United Way of Harrison County, Inc.

"Steptoe & Johnson has been a part of this community for nearly 100 years, and we are proud to support both of these organizations," said Bridgeport office Managing Member Gary Nickerson. "We are thrilled to be able to help both of these organizations in a small way to support their great work."
