CHARLESTON -- A woman is suing Charleston Area Medical Center and a Charleston physician after she claims they are responsible for her father’s death.

Prior to March 19, Phillip Cadle became a patient of Dr. Robert Shin and Charleston Area Medical Center, according to a complaint filed Sept. 5 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Jessica A. Stiltner claims during this time, the defendants were negligent in their care and treatment of her father.

The defendants failed to adequately address and determine the cause of Cadle’s complaints of shortness of breath following his discharge from the hospital, according to the suit.

Stiltner claims the defendants failed to recognize the significance of continued tachycardia prior to discharge.

As a result of the defendant’s negligence, carelessness, recklessness and marked deviation from the normal standard of care, Cadle was forced to endure mental and physical pain and suffering and was injured to a disabling extent in his body, mental and emotional functions, according to the suit.

Stiltner claims as a result of the defendants’ negligence, her father died on March 19.

The defendants’ actions have caused Stiltner, distributees and beneficiaries to suffer great mental pain and anguish; loss of services, society, guidance and companionship of the deceased; and financial and pecuniary losses, according to the suit.

Stiltner is seeking judgment in an amount as yet to be determined with pre- and post-judgment interest. She is being represented by William S. Druckman and Madonna C. Estep.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Charles E. King.
