HUNTINGTON -- Fourteen people will join Republican state Supreme Court candidate John Yoder on Oct. 27 for the New River Train ride from Huntington to Hinton.
Those who have purchased tickets to accompany Yoder on the trip include Chong Broadwater, widow of the late federal judge W. Craig Broadwater; H. John Rogers, who ran as a candidate for State Supreme Court in the Democratic Primary this year; Conrad Lucas, Chair of the West Virginia State Republican Party; House of Delegates member Eric Householder and state Senate Minority Leader Mike Hall.
"I have wanted to go on this train ride for more than 25 years, but my schedule never permitted it," Yoder said in a press release. "This allows me to see some of the most beautiful scenery in West Virginia while working on my campaign at the same time. I hope everyone going on the ride enjoys viewing West Virginia’s great autumn landscape. We are all very enthusiastic about my campaign’s growing support across the state."
The Yoder campaign is calling the ride the "Voter for Yoder Victory Train Ride," and Yoder's supporters on the trip will be wearing a T-shirt that says, "I am a Voter for Yoder." The train leaves Huntington early in the morning and goes to Hinton for three hours for the Hinton Railroad Days Festival, and then returns to Huntington the same evening. The New River train only runs four days per year through the New River Gorge, at a time when riders can see the fall foliage.
Currently a Circuit Judge in Martinsburg, Yoder has served in all three branches of government. He has been a trial judge for nearly eight years and previously worked for the Chief Justice of the United States at the United States Supreme Court.
Yoder also was an appointee of President Reagan at the U.S. Department of Justice and served as a West Virginia state Senator for eight years.
Yoder is running for one of two seats on the bench along with fellow Republican Allen Loughry and Democrats Justice Robin Jean Davis and Tish Chafin.
