CHARLESTON – State Attorney General Darrell McGraw announced on Tuesday that the deadline is approaching for the filing of claims related to the LCD screen price-fixing settlement.
Consumers and businesses that are entitled to receive a cash refund from the settlement fund must file claims by Dec. 6. The fund is made of up settlements with 10 manufacturers over an alleged conspiracy to raise the prices of thin-film transistor liquid display flat panels used in laptops, monitors and televisions.
“Our Consumer Protection Division strives to help the citizens of West Virginia and consumers have the chance to recover their money due to this settlement,” McGraw said. “Unethical methods of conducting business will not be tolerated within our state.”
Consumers eligible for a claim could collect $25, $100, $200 or more depending on how many monitors, televisions and laptops they purchased. Businesses with more significant purchases could recoup thousands of dollars.
The claims process consists of a few questions related to the number of LCD flat screen devices purchased between 1999 and 2006.
Consumers and businesses are eligible for payments if residents of West Virginia or one of the other 23 settlement states or the District of Columbia at the time of purchase. The states included are Wisconsin, Vermont, Tennessee, South Dakota, Rhode Island, North Dakota, North Carolina, New York, New Mexico, Nevada, Missouri, Mississippi, Minnesota, Michigan, Massachusetts, Maine, Kansas, Iowa, Hawaii, Florida, California, Arkansas and Arizona.

The settling defendants that manufactured the flat panels for use in LCD devices include Chi Mei Optoelectronics, HannStar Display Corporation, Chunghwa Picture Tubes, LG Electronics, Epson Imaging Devices Corporation, Samsung Electronics Corporation, Toshiba Corporation, Sharp Corporation, Hitachi Ltd. and AU Optronics Corporation.
