Woman sues Chemtura Corporation for disability discrimination

MORGANTOWN -- A former employee of Chemtura Corporation claims her employment was terminated because of her disability.

Peggy Webb was employed by Chemtura and during her employment, she performed her duties in a satisfactory manner and met the reasonable expectations of the defendant, according to a complaint filed against Chemtura  on Oct. 26 in Monongalia Circuit Court.

Webb claims during her employment, she came into contact with certain chemicals that caused a severe allergic reaction.

Alternative work existed for Webb outside of the work that subjected her to the allergic reaction, but the defendant failed to allow her to work in an alternative area where she would be safe, according to the suit.

Webb claims the defendant fired her without cause and without providing her an alternative working environment.

The defendant created a hostile work environment for Webb, which violates the West Virginia Human Rights Act, according to the suit.

Webb claims the defendant’s actions caused her to suffer lost wages and benefits.

Chemtura’s actions entitled Webb to damages for indignity, embarrassment, humiliation, annoyance and inconvenience, according to the suit.

Webb is seeking compensatory and punitive damages with pre-judgment interest. She is being represented by D. Adrian Hoosier II.
