CHARLESTON - Anne Ballard Ellison has joined Bowles Rice LLP as the regional law firm's Human Resources director. She most recently served as an assistant attorney general in the West Virginia Attorney General's office.

"We are delighted to welcome Anne Ellison to Bowles Rice," said Thomas A. Heywood, the firm's Managing Partner. "She has an ideal combination of work experience, education and legal ability – all traits we were seeking in an individual to fill this key position."

As an assistant attorney general, Ellison represented the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources in grievances filed by its 6,100 employees. She litigated DHHR employee grievances before the West Virginia Public Employees Grievance Board and defended the DHHR in investigations by the West Virginia Division of Labor, U.S. Department of Labor, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and West Virginia Human Rights Commission.

Prior to joining the Attorney General's Office, Ellison was an associate with Dinsmore & Shohl in the law firm's Charleston office for five years, where she focused her practice on representing employers in a variety of labor and employment matters. She earned her law degree from West Virginia University College of Law in 2005, after receiving her bachelor's degree in history and government, cum laude, from West Virginia University Institute of Technology.

Ellison will be located in Bowles Rice's Charleston office and will oversee the firm's staff hiring and personnel issues throughout the region. In addition to Charleston, Bowles Rice has offices in Martinsburg, Morgantown, Moundsville and Parkersburg in West Virginia; Southpointe, Pa.; Lexington, Ky.; and Winchester, Va.. The firm has 135 attorneys and nearly 150 support staff.
