Woman says Teays Valley Center caused mother's death

WINFIELD - A Putnam County woman is suing Teays Valley Center after she claims it is responsible for her mother's death.

590 North Poplar Fork Road Operations LLC is doing business as Teays Valley Center.

Genesis Healthcare Corporation was also named as a defendant in the suit.

Beatrice Jividen was a resident of the defendants and during her residency, she suffered multiple falls, according to a complaint filed April 8 in Putnam Circuit Court.

Karen Bowen claims the defendants failed to implement appropriate fall prevention measures and failed to provide adequate safety and supervision.

The defendants also failed to monitor and assess Jividen for her skin breakdown and failed to implement appropriate measures to prevent and treat skin breakdowns, according to the suit.

Bowen claims the defendants were negligent in their care for her mother and had a duty to act with reasonable care and failed to do so.

The defendants breached their duties to Jividen and caused her wrongful death, according to the suit.

Bowen is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by Andrew L. Paternostro, Sprague W. Hazard and Jeff D. Stewart of the Bell Law Firm PLLC.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Joseph K. Reeder.
