Huntington woman sues Medical Neurology, alleges attack by physician

HUNTINGTON - A Huntington woman is suing Medical Neurology Inc. after she claims she was physically and verbally attacked by a physician.

Dr. Ijaz Ahmad, individually and in his capacity as president of Medical Neurology and Dr. Naushaba Ahmad, individually and in her capacity as secretary and treasurer of Medical Neurology were also named as defendants in the suit.

Maria G. Garza was employed by Medical Neurology and was at work on Oct. 5 when Naushaba Ahmad, "without any provocation or prior warning, did maliciously and violently beat, jerk and throw items at... Garza," according to a complaint filed April 17 in Cabell Circuit Court.

Garza claims Naushaba Ahmad also verbally attacked her.

Naushaba Ahmad's attack caused Garza to suffer serious bodily injuries and psychological injuries, according to the suit.

Garza claims Naushaba Ahmad is believed to have a mental instability of which Ijaz Ahmad was aware.

Ijaz Ahmad failed to properly supervise the conduct of Naushaba Ahmad, which resulted in the attack on Garza, according to the suit.

Garza claims as a result of the willful, negligent and wrongful conduct of the defendants, she suffered great mental and physical anguish; severe emotional distress; public humiliation; and embarrassment.

The defendants' conduct was outrageous and intentional that caused harm and severe emotional distress; fright and horror; grief; shame; humiliation; embarrassment; anger; chagrin; disappointment; worry; nausea; and physical distress and injury to Garza, according to the suit.

Garza is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by Dwight J. Staples and Gail Henderson-Staples of Henderson, Henderson & Staples LC.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge David M. Pancake.
