CHARLESTON - A former employee says SecureOne LLC failed to timely pay her final wages after terminating her employment.

Jimeka A. Straughter was employed by SecureOne from Dec. 11 until Dec. 27, according to a complaint filed April 23 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Straughter claims the defendant failed to pay her final wages within 72 hours of discharging her from her employment, which entitles her to liquidated damages for three times the unpaid amount of her final wages.

As a result of SecureOne's failure to pay her final wages in a timely manner, Straughter suffered damages and is entitled to wages and benefits due with interest, according to the suit.

Straughter claims the defendant also violated West Virginia code by failing to pay her final wages in a timely manner.

It is state public policy to pay wages due and owing to employees and failure to do so is contrary to the principles of freedom and equality of opportunity and is destructive to a free and democratic society, according to the suit.

Straughter is seeking compensatory and liquidated damages. She is being represented by J. Michael Ranson and Cynthia M. Ranson of Ranson Law Offices and G. Patrick Jacobs of Jacobs Law Office.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge James C. Stucky.
