CIVIL FILINGS: Monongalia County

May 10

Traci and Steven Scott v University of West Virginia Board of Governors
PA- Wesley Metheney; J- N/A
* The Scotts are seeking punitive damages for injuries that allegedly occurred while Traci Scott underwent a hysterectomy at United Hospitals. Scott’s gynecologist, Dr. Dunham, was advised by nurses that the count for laporatomy sponges was incorrect, the suit says. Dunham requested an x-ray be taken to see if there were any foreign objects in her abdomen, it says. The radiologist report couldn’t identify anything radiopaque but did identify something, it says. Another x-ray was suggested, but the doctor completed the closing, it says. After discharge from the hospital, Scott suffered from severe abdominal pain, underwent a CT scan and was again admitted to United Hospital for surgery for removal what was determined to be a 14-inch square laparatomy sponge, it says. In addition to punitive damages, the Scotts seek medical, hospital and doctor bills, pain and suffering and loss of wages.
