Kroger, Tyson Foods sued over greasy substance on floor

Kroger

CHARLESTON - A woman who slipped on a greasy substance on the floor of a Kroger store is suing the Kroger Co. and Tyson Foods Inc. for her injuries.

On Aug. 5, 2011, Deborah Watson was a patron at Kroger in Charleston and was at a meat case when she slipped on a greasy substance on the floor, according to a complaint filed June 21 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Watson claims the greasy substance leaked from a package of Tyson Foods chicken.

The fall was due to Tyson Foods for its failure to provide safe packaging and Kroger for its employees failing to maintain a safe floor, free of water, which caused Watson to fall, according to the suit.

Watson claims she suffered injuries to her knee and other sundry parts of her body and suffered serious pain and suffering; injuries and disability; and has incurred medical bills.

Watson is seeking compensatory damages. She is being represented by Stephen P. Meyer of Meyer, Ford, Glasser & Radman PLLC.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Paul Zakaib Jr.
